In the previous pages you have seen plenty of examples of 3D presentations of our projects. Great that we can do that nowadays but this really is only a side benefit of this technology.

Now we have the tools to design and construct in FULL 3D. Before the works will be constructed on site, we now can build it first in a virtual environment. Not just the architect but also the M&E consultant and the engineer. We can all combine our work into specialized software carrying out collision detection between various elements provided by various consultants or manufacturers. For instance ducting passing though construction, of columns penetrating areas they should not be, etc…. This technology is commonly referred to as BIM. This is the whole process of data exchange and providing information for budget costing and construction documentation. No conflicting drawings between consultants anymore, just one set of drawings encompassing all facets of the works.

We are not that far yet in Ireland. For exchange we need more than our office to be BIM compliant. But we can safely say that the Full 3d modeling from sketch design to working drawings has resulted in much better construction documentation, no conflicts anymore between various drawings, between elevations and sections, etc… All the 2D Plans, elevations and sections are now generated from the 3D model after each update, keeping all drawings fully up to date, avoiding costly errors on site.
